Designed by John Surtees and Ken Sears, the Surtees TS19 was at the center of one of the most controversial sponsorship deals in Formula 1. As John Surtees, the 1964 F1 World Champion, led his own team in 1976 he was desperately looking for sponsoring and signed with the company Durex. This sponsorship was so controversial that it led the BBC to pull out from the season’s races so as not to offend its viewers, thus missing one of the most thrilling seasons in Grand Prix history, which was marketd by the Niki Lauda and James Hunt duel.
