The ATS HS1, also known as the Merzario A1, was a Formula 1 car that marked the beginning of the German ATS team’s entry into the sport. The A1 was developed using the basic design concepts of 1970s Formula 1 cars, centred around an aluminium monocoque chassis and powered by the reliable Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine.
Italian driver Arturo Merzario later acquired the design and rebranded the car as the Merzario A1.
