The March 773 is one of the classic single-seaters produced by the Bicester house for Formula 3.
Several drivers raced with English single-seaters, including the young Brazilian Nelson Piquet who began racing with this car in the European Formula 3 championship in 1977, before moving on to a Ralt RT1 chassis again powered by a 2-litre Toyota engine and prepared by the Italian Novamotor.
Like many single-seaters of the time, it changed hands and with driver Marcello Rosei, the March 773 participated in the Italian Formula 3 championship in the 1977 and 1978 seasons.
At the end of the 1978 season, it was Michele Alboreto who entered the cockpit of this single-seater. The young driver took it into the race and immediately made himself noticed. Thanks to his performances in Formula 3 and the European championship win, the doors opened for his debut in Formula 1.
